На официальной страничке разработчика Icecream Media Converter временно отсутствует, но вы легко можете найти программу в сети. Программа умеет конвертировать не только ролики, но и файлы аудио, и считается одной из самых эффективных и простых, которой легко могут пользоваться даже новички.

Программа пользуется популярностью из-за невероятной простоты и подойдет тем, кто не хочет вникать глубоко в суть различных форматов и способов их преобразования. Устанавливается она быстро и совместима со всеми версиями операционной системы Windows.Также вы можете быть спокойны: на вашем компьютере не появится ненужное программное обеспечение в виде утилит, браузеров и подобных вещей.

Установив программу, сразу запустите ее и выберите в настройках русский язык. Щелкните «Настройки» и выберете все, что вам необходимо будет для дальнейшей работы.

Этап второй. Нажмите кнопку «Конвертации», если видеоролик один, или добавьте его в список и продолжайте выбирать другие файлы. Как только сформируете список, нажмите кнопку, и процесс конвертации начнется.

Но это не все функции программы Icecream Media Converter. Для преобразования файлов видео не обязательно сохранять на PC, вы также можете указать ссылку на Ютуб, нажав «добавление URL». Алгоритм добавления видеоролика абсолютно такой же, за исключением того, что необходимо не указывать путь к файлу, а ввести ссылку на него в интернете. А в остальном также выбираете формат, качество конечного результата и нажимаете кнопку «Конвертации» сразу или добавляете в очередь.

Features of HandBrake

When you start using the video transcoder, you will find a lot of tiny features for video conversion. However, here, I’ll highlight the important things you need to know about HandBrake:

Video Conversion Presets

Suppose you want to convert a full HD video to play on a mobile which was originally tailored for desktop viewing, what do you do?

Would you test various dimensions and convert them repeatedly to get the perfect mobile port? Or, would you rather prefer to have pre-defined settings for such conversions?

If you opt for a preset, you just have to select the target device (or type of device) from the list of available presets.

It even features presets for PS4 Pro (4K) and Discord. So, you can expect a big list of presets available.

Input Sources Support

Unless the file has some sort of copy protection, HandBrake can help you convert it. You will have no problems whatsoever even if you have an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc as the source with no copyright protection.

All the available video encoding formats should work fine as an input source file.

In addition to the ability of video conversion, it also lets you tweak the video to suit your requirements.

You can change the dimensions, crop it, add a filter, change the frame rate settings, and a lot more things.

Steps on How to Convert Videos to Other Format with Handbrake for Windows

Handbrake Tutorial Step 1: Select a Video Source.

First things first, download and install Handbrake for Windows. When launch the Handbrake, click the Source button at the top, you’ll get three options:

• File: Use this option to convert a video file, for example, from WMV to MKV.
• Folder: Use this option to select a DVD / Blu-ray Video_ts folder on your hard disk.

Select a source and once imported, you got a list of Titles on the source, and then select the one you wish to encode. The main movie usually has the longest duration.

Handbrake Tutorial Step 2: Make Output Settings.

The first thing is to select the output destination. Simply click the «Browse» button and choose a folder on your hard disk.

Secondly, choose a preset from the preset list on the right. Even you want to customize the parameters, you are recommended to choose a closest preset and start changing from there. As regarding to the presets, «Normal» and «High Profile» are good for watching on your computer or TV. «Universal» may be better for your portable devices.

Handbrake Tutorial Step 3: Start converting.

It’s time to click the Start Encode button to start converting video to MP4 or MkV. If you have many videos to convert, simply click the Add to Queue button to queue these and start task from the «Show Queue» dialog.

Installing HandBrake on Ubuntu and other Linux distributions

HandBrake is a cross-platform application and you can install it on all different platforms like Linux, macOS and Windows. Just head over to heir website and download it from there.

On It’s FOSS, our focus is on Linux so I am going to show the steps to install it on Linux.

Installing HandBrake on Ubuntu

HandBrake is available in the universe repository in Ubuntu. If you have it enabled, you should find it in the software center. Just search for the name and install it from there.

You can also use terminal for installing HandBrake with apt or apt-get command:

However, the software center might feature the older version. If you want to install the latest version of HandBrake on Ubuntu and other Ubuntu-based distributions, you can use its official PPA. It’s better to uninstall any existing version of HandBrake beforehand.

You can learn more about using PPA here. It will help you to remove PPA, if you ever need to uninstall HandBrake installed via the PPA.

If you want to install the CLI version of Handbrake, simply use this command:

Quite honestly, HandBrake should be used as a GUI application. If you want command line, you can always use ffmpeg that is more powerful and HandBrake uses it underneath anyways.

Installing HandBrake on other Linux distributions

HandBrake is one of the popular Linux software and it should be available in the official repositories of almost all Linux distributions.

Just use the software center or package manager of your distribution to install HandBrake.

But again, your distribution might not have the latest version of HandBrale. So, if you want the latest version installed, you can try installing the Flatpak package available. If you are not sure how to use Flatpak, refer to our guide on using Flatpak on Linux.

HandBrake is a free and open-source video transcoder program that enables you to convert video files into nearly any format. Originally developed by Eric «titer» Petit and now maintained by its active community, HandBrake makes it easier to rip videos from a DVD to a data storage device. This program uses third-party libraries such as FFmpeg, libvpx, and x265.

Not easy to use

HandBrake is a multi-platform program designed to allow videos to play on any device. It creates copies of video files by converting them into the appropriate formats and suitable codecs. With this, you will be able to play it on platforms that only support specific formats. Unfortunately, this software doesn’t feature a beginner-friendly tutorial. However, its online community offers in-depth documentation on how to use it.  

When you start off converting files, you are allowed to make use of profiles on built-in device presets. These profiles are preferences optimized for various devices. You can choose a universal but basic one offered by HandBrak, which you can further tweak to suit either standard or high-quality conversions. You can also customize your profile to fit the receiving device well. These are easy to set up, and you can play around with the various options for more advanced settings.

But is worth learning

This application supports a wide selection of input sources, including popular formats such as MKV, AVI, and MP4. It can process most of the common multimedia files and any DVD or BluRay sources that don’t contain any kind of copy protection. The supported output formats, on the other hand, includes the following: file container formats like MP4, M4V, MKV, and AVI; and video encoders like H.265 (x265 and QuickSync), H.264 (x264 and QuickSync), H.265 MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, VP9, and Theora.

HandBrake can also convert to audio formats such as AAC, HE-AAC, MP3, FLAC, AC3, Vorbis, E-AC3, DTS, DTS-HD, and TrueHD. It offers two-pass conversions and allows you to codify a double soundtrack. However, this video transcoder doesn’t just convert. It has video set-up features that allow title and chapter range selections if you want to label them. With this, you can easily jump to scenes and place markers when creating your scene selection menu. The software also has subtitle options, allowing VobSub and closed captioning.

Another feature is the bitrate calculator, letting you adjust the video quality according to the final file size you want. There are also video filters you can use, like Deinterlacing, Decomb, Denoise, Detelecine, Deblock, Grayscale, Cropping, and Scaling. Additionally, it offers live static and video previews. Lastly, the program can do batch encoding by either the user interface or command-line function. Note that you’ll need to have the right codecs installed for the type of format you want, however.

More for advanced users

Overall, HandBrake is a great choice for a free video converter. It offers a wide range of features that make it highly useful beyond converting different formats. However, while it’s packed with tools, it’s not easy for casual users due to its technical tutorial. Veterans will find it versatile, but beginners may just find it confusing.
