BlissOS – Android for desktops and laptops

BlissOS Android operating system developed by a team effort of different developers such as Chainfire, CM/LineageOS, Android-x86, Jide, and the others. The BlissOS is for your x86-based devices which include desktops, laptops, tablets, maker boards and a lot more. It supports both BIOS/CSM and UEFI boot.

The builds of the BlissOs are compatible with PC, MacBooks, and Chromebooks comes with CPUs from Intel and AMD, and GPUs from Intel, AMD, or Nvidia.

To give the more desktop-like feel the developers have integrated the Taskbar launcher developed by the farmerbb along with orientation app that force installed apps to start in the landscape mode. For gamers, the BlissOS includes Octopus. The Octopus is a solution that allows users to map the on-screen controls with gamepads, mouses, keyboard, developed by the Phoenix OS team. It can be downloaded separately to work with the above mentioned Android OS for PC too. However, it is still on its beta stage and also has glitches.

Remix OS (Dead Almost)

Note: The Remix OS has discontinued Android OS for PC and now getting no more updates. The developers have abandoned it to work on some other enterprise project, however, it is still available on the website to download.

It was one of the best Android OS and if someone wants to experience it then he/she can. It is available for personal computers with x86 and ARM architectures. It allowed PC users to run Android mobile apps on any compatible Intel-based PC. The Remix OS is based on Android-x86 and available to free download, it supports 32-bit & 64-bit systems and UEFI boot. The system requirements of Remix OS is 2 GHz dual-core processor(at least), 2 GB system memory and minimum 8 GB of free hard drive space. The last update of this Android OS for PC was based on Android Marshmallow.

Phoenix OS- Android OS for PC

It is another best Android-PC based operating system with a much familiar interface that is easy to use as the Windows 10. The Phoenix OS current version is based on Android 7.1. It supports the keyboard and mouse in the same way as we use in the Windows, macOS, or Linux PCs. It also features a few retro features such as desktop, multi-window, mouse, and keyboard operation, etc.

Furthermore, Phoenix supports shortcut keys such as Ctrl+C, Win+D, Alt+Tab, and Alt+F4. Beside common peripheral devices support it also has the ethernet compatibility to obtain an IP address automatically, manually configure IP, DNS, gateway, etc. You don’t need to download Parallel apps like applications to create dual instances of apps like Whatsapp, Instagram etc.

It has an inbuilt function for that even a user can run identical apps in multiple windows cumulatively. To save the processing power the Phoenix system uses a strict management strategy. Android-x86

Android x86 is the project to port AOSP-Android for x86 machines. The project plays a very significant role in all the mentioned Android operating systems. If you want a lightweight android operating system without customization, install android OS build from here. You’ll get the same key features and interface seen on a real Android smartphone.

If you lack good computer hardware you can test the KitKat/Marshmallow x86 build which is 350+MB image file you can burn into a USB to create bootable media. After, simply boot and use the Android OS. Also android-x86 ports of Android Lollipop and Marshmallow you can use in computers with moderate hardware.

Note: For most users, the 64-bit version should just work fine, people with the single onboard processor can use the x86_64 build.

В своем тесте я загрузил ISO образ PrimeOS Mainline и записал его на флешку. Разработчики рекомендуют использовать для этого Rufus или Etcher (последний вариант подойдет если требуется записать систему на USB из-под Mac OS или Linux). Для загрузки с созданного накопителя обязательно потребуется отключить Secure Boot (при наличии функции, на старых системах её может не быть).

Эксперимент проводился на ноутбуке Dell Vostro с i5-7200u, интегрированным видео и 16 Гб RAM.

Запуск в режиме LiveCD прошел успешно. При первом запуске потребовалось ввести данные пользователя Android в англоязычное окно (не данные учетной записи Google).
Русский язык интерфейса устанавливаем в Settings — Language and Input.
Настройка ввода с клавиатуры производится в параметрах физической клавиатуры, установки приведены на скриншоте ниже. Переключение по клавишам Win+Пробел, что не очень удобно (т.к. по клавише Win также открывается и «Пуск» в PrimeOS).
Сразу заработали: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, клавиши громкости и яркости на клавиатуре (в сочетании с Fn), веб-камера, разъемы USB. Но, несмотря на работу клавиш громкости сам звук на моей системе не включился.

Результат: всё работает, очень шустро (но и ноутбук не самый слабый), ниже — скриншот из Geekbench, результат лучше моего Galaxy Note 9.

Интерфейс минималистичный и нет и ничего лишнего в системе, почти чистая Android 7.1 — добавлен лишь файловый менеджер FX, приложение Gaming Centre, в котором можно настроить управление с клавиатуры в играх, и раздел в настройках:

В нем вы можете включить Root-доступ, посмотреть горячие клавиши PrimeOS, выбрать, какие из приложений можно запускать в нескольких окнах, а также включить опцию, чтобы приложения считали, что подключение к Интернету производится по Wi-Fi даже когда по факту используется Ethernet.

Пожалуй, это всё, что можно рассказать — действительно простой, удобный и быстрый, исправно работающая ОС Android, разве что не повезло со звуком, видимо, не нашлось драйвера.

Что такое Android x86

Android x86 представляет собой неофициальный порт операционной системы Android для запуска на процессорах Intel и AMD. Android x86 основана на Android Open Source Project (AOSP). AOSP — это проект открытого исходного кода операционной системы Андроид. Он позволяет получить доступ к исходному коду ОС, системе сборки, документации, сообществам и другим необходимым компонентам.

Проект по созданию Android x86 берет свое начало с 2009 года. Его родоначальниками были тайваньский инженер-программист Chih-Wei Huang и Yi Sun (позже Yi Sun покинул проект по личным мотивам). Сначала проект развивался как набор патчей для исходного кода Андроид, который позволял запускать Андроид на некоторых нетбуках, планшетах и мобильных ПК. Но затем разработчики поняли, что проект имеет потенциал и его можно развить в нечто большее, чем набор патчей. Была создана и размещена на GIT-репозитории база исходного кода для распространения и разработки поддержки различных платформ x86. PrimeOS Mainline 64 бит (системы 2014+)- Intel Core 5 / Celeron 4000 / AMD A8 7410 или выше с поддержкой ядра SSE 4.2 / 4.19 и 18.1.0 mesa- не рекомендуется для графических процессоров Nvidia.
PrimeOS Standard 64 bit (системы 2011+)- Intel Core Gen 2 / Intel Atom Z8350 / Celeron 3350 / AMD A8 5550M или выше с поддержкой ядра SSE 4.2 / 4.14 и 17.1.10 mesa- рекомендуется для всех типов графических процессоров.
PrimeOS Classic 32 bit (старые системы)- Intel Core Gen 1 / Intel Atom Z3735F / Pentium G620 / AMD Phenom II X6 1100T или аналогичное / 4.14 и 17.1.10 mesa- рекомендуется для старых графических процессоров.

Вставьте загрузочный USB-накопитель в ПК

Загрузитесь с этой флешки.

Увидите следующее окно

После выбирайте из списка ранее созданное вами свободное пространство. Сюда и установите систему.

Далее вам будет предложено отформатировать раздел. Выбираем EXT4

В следующем диалоговом окне необходимо согласиться

После будет предложено установить загрузчик GRUB. Жмем YES.

Далее также жмем Да, чтобы сделать раздел доступным для чтения и записи

На завершающей стадии будет предложено перезагрузить

OpenThos – ahh IDK

Openthos is new, and it supports Android apps and Linux apps in multi-windows. For this to run your computer’s CPU should be 64-bit architecture. Getting the ISO file of this operating was a task itself. First, you have to go through the link and enter the password, and later you need Baidu client software where you need to create an account (which is also problematic because everything will be in Chinese) then you can download the operating system image. Moreover, tested in the Legacy mode as it failed to boot in UEFI mode. If you really want to test put android OS on your computer, you may probably want Phoenix OS or something near stock-like Android x86. OpenThos vision is good on paper but still, it has not achieved a great user experience just yet.

Первоначально создайте на вашем жестком диске отдельный раздел, где вы желаете установить эту систему. Это будет свободное пространство.

Поменяйте приритет загрузки в Биосе. Отключите в Биосе быструю загрузку и защиту. При загрузки с флешки появится знакомый экран загрузчика. Следуйте указаниям.

Операционная система практически полностью повторяет мобильную версию системы. При первом запуске необходимо создать или выбрать существующую учетную запись в Google, настроить WiFi подключение, указать кредитную карту или PayPal (этот шаг можно пропустить) и выполнить некоторые другие настройки.

Установка новых приложений в системе выполняется через Google Play. К сожалению, далеко не все приложения работают. У меня, например, часть программ вылетала на этапе запуска. Также приложения с вертикальной ориентацией экрана повернуты на 90 градусов.

Проект Android x86 начал сотрудничество с компанией Jide Technology. Jide Technology разрабатывает настольную операционную систему Remix OS, которая основана на Android x86. Remix OS в отличии от Android x86 имеет интерфейс схожий с обычными настольными операционными системами. 2 марта 2016 года была выпущена первая бета-версия Remix OS.

Установка PrimeOS

Установка PrimeOS, как уже описывалось, возможна двумя методами:

С использованием готового установщика в EFI-системах: просто запускаем установщик, функция Secure Boot должна быть отключена. Указываем, сколько места и на каком диске выделить под PrimeOS, ждем, компьютер будет перезагружаться в процессе. Разработчик указывает на то, что не стоит обращать на появляющиеся в процессе окна командной строки и что-то делать в них.
С загрузочной флешки. В этом случае предварительно, ещё до загрузки с неё подготовьте отдельный раздел для PrimeOS, а уже при установке выберите этот раздел, укажите файловую систему Ext4 (данные на нем будут удалены) и дайте доступ R/W (запись-чтение) к этому разделу, о чем в процессе появится запрос.

Я не проводил проверку процесса установки полностью, но, вероятнее всего, вся процедура не должна слишком отличаться от установки других аналогичных систем.

И, как итог: PrimeOS мне пришлась по душе. Но вы можете попробовать и другие такие системы без установки: Remix OS, Bliss OS и Phoenix OS, возможно, одна из них вам понравится больше чем все остальные.

PhoenixOS is a great Android operating system, which is probably because of features and interface similarities to the remix operating system. Both 32-bit and 64-bit computers are supported. It is also based on the Android x86 project. It has all the features to be called the best Android os for PC.

The new Phoenix OS comes with an installer that makes it easier to install the operating system directly to the hard drive/USB drive. This is an only android x-86 fork that currently offering updates and hopefully, they will continue to do so in the future. This is one Android operating system for the computer which is based on Android 7. The downside is annoying ads and built-in apps.

Shashlik

This is a not an Android OS as mentioned above but an approach to run the Android applications on the Linux desktops in the easiest form. It’s a Linux base that we can nest inside our session. OpenGL and graphics are all rendered on the host ensuring fast performance. Shashlik provides an incredibly stripped-down Android base which boots directly into the loaded app, but with a running activity manager and daemons so that intents still work correctly.

Blisspop is pure Android x86 ports but with few modifications like the taskbar and system stability. You can also launch apps in Windowed mode rather than the full-screen which helps opening two or more apps side by side. A note about Openthos and Bliss OS: When testing both OS failed to boot over UEFI firmware, they run successfully when Legacy mode was turned on from the BIOS settings. So if you have a computer with only UEFI firmware you maybe not be able to boot both of the Android Operating systems from a bootable media device.

But if you insist and like to test them you can use a virtual machine software to run them on the operating system you are using. Some of the modern computers might have support for Legacy mode, but you need to enable it from the BIOS settings. So technically if you are running on Windows 8 or newer your computer probably has support for UEFI firmware in you might face problems booting these two so check in your BIOS settings if you can find Legacy mode and enable it.

For people who care less about highly modified Android OS under a Windows look-alike skin but still want some usability features should try this.

FydeOS – a little complicated

FydeOS is based on chromium fork to run on Intel computers. Version 5 is running on Chromium r70 and supports Android Apps. Despite you won’t find play store as it was mainly focused on the Chinese market where Google services are banned. Still, you can sideload Android apps or even install the Google Play Store. We should remind you FydeOS is still in Beta meaning the first time boot will take you half an hour. Android subsystem and related functionalities are limited to Intel series graphics cards. It is relatively new in our best Android OS for PC list because it was only able to run Android apps after Chromium r70.

Android-x86 Project – Run Android on Your PC

When it comes to run the latest Android OS for pc then the Android-x86 is the one of the best open-source Android project available for PC. Android-x86 OS project offers compatible ISO images for both 64-bit 32-bit computer systems.
